How can I get an appointment?

You can make appointments at any of the hospitals near your home. For a government hospital you will need a referral letter from your GP or polyclinic. For a private hospital, you can call directly for appointments. Otherwise, you may choose to look up the yellow pages for a listed Speech Therapy service.

In terms of cost, it will be better to check with the hospitals directly as there will be some variation. In general, government hospitals charge between $20 and $40 for a 30 minute session. Private hospitals charge from $35 to $60 for a 30 minute session. Private Speech Therapists (listed in yellow pages) charge from $90 to $160 for 1 hour sessions. It really depends on where and with whom you feel comfortable. It is often a good idea to call up a few places, speak to the therapists and go to someone with whom you feel comfortable.
