Scholarships for Singaporean students
 

There are several sources of scholarships for Singaporean students to study speech therapy degrees. These all come with bonds, which vary from around five to eight years. Ads generally appear in the Straits Times around September to November each year. You can find out more by approaching the providers below:

National Council of Social Services

VWO Capability Fund (VCF) Scholarship
The National Council of Social Service (NCSS) offers the Voluntary Welfare Organisation Capability Fund (VCF) Scholarship, which is administered by NCSS.  This Scholarship can be awarded in full (100%) or in part (50%).  The value of the scholarship includes the following items:

1.        Tuition fees
2.        Registration fees
3.        Examination fees
4.        Book allowance
5.        Maintenance allowance
6.        Settling-in allowance (for overseas studies)

The bond duration ranges from 1 year to 6 years, depending on the quantum of the scholarship.  The bond will be served at one of the NCSS member voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs).

Eligibility
The criteria for the VCF Scholarship is listed below:
·        Singaporean or Permanent Resident;
·        Good academic results; and
·        Strong interest to work in the social service sector

Application for the VCF Scholarship is opened throughout the year.  The application will be reviewed in the months of April, August and November.  Short listed applicants will be notified to attend a Panel Interview in the months of May, September and December respectively. Applications received during the month of review will be processed for the next Panel Interview.

Ministry of Health
MOH have just introduced scholarship schemes for other allied health professions and their next step is looking at training needs of speech therapists. Contact them directly for the latest information: email moh_info@moh.gov.sg, website http://www.moh.gov.sg.

Hospitals
Individual hospitals also offer bonded scholarships. Approach the various hospitals (government and private) directly with your CV. A list of hospitals with SLT services is provided here.
